On Wednesday, May 29th, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will address a joint session of the National Assembly, marking a key event in the celebrations of 25 years of Nigeria’s democratic journey at both the executive and legislative levels.
This announcement was made on Tuesday by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a statement to State House Correspondents. According to Onanuga, President Tinubu’s address will focus on the achievements of his administration and the progress of Nigeria’s democracy since the transition from military to civilian rule in 1999.
Onanuga also clarified that President Tinubu will not be delivering a national broadcast to celebrate his first anniversary in office. Instead, the President has chosen to address the joint session of the National Assembly.
In addition to President Tinubu, several notable figures are slated to speak at the session. Former Senate President Senator David Mark, former Speaker of the House of Representatives and current Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and former military ruler General Abdulsalami Abubakar, who oversaw the handover to civilian rule in 1999, will all deliver remarks.
Following the speeches, President Tinubu will inaugurate the newly named Bola Ahmed Tinubu Building, which will serve as the National Assembly Library and Resource Center. This event highlights the administration’s commitment to enhancing legislative resources and commemorating Nigeria’s democratic milestones.
