President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved new appointments within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Abdulrazak Yusuf Tukur has been named National Commissioner representing the North West, while Saseyi Feyijimi Ibiyemi has been nominated as the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ondo State.
The appointments were announced by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. Tukur, 59, brings extensive experience to the position, having served INEC since 1999, most recently as the Director of Electoral Operations and Logistics. His academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts from Bayero University, a postgraduate diploma in Economics from Bradford University, and a Master of Arts from Leeds University in England. Tukur’s appointment awaits Senate clearance.
Saseyi Feyijimi Ibiyemi, a 58-year-old seasoned lawyer from Ilaje in Ondo State, is set to replace the late Niyi Ijalaye, who passed away in August while serving as the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ogun State. Currently INEC’s Administrative Secretary in Lagos State, Ibiyemi graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University in 1987 and was called to the bar in 1988. She also holds a Master’s degree in Election Management from Bingham University, Nasarawa State.
Both appointments are subject to Senate confirmation, and if approved, Tukur and Ibiyemi will contribute to INEC’s mission of strengthening Nigeria’s electoral processes.
