The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has announced that its purchasing portal will be reopened once it has addressed the existing backlog of petrol orders. This decision follows complaints from marketers about the portal’s shutdown, which they argue has led to increased round-tripping and inflated prices.
In a press statement, Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd, explained that the closure of the portal is a measure to prevent the prolonged holding of marketers’ funds. Soneye stated, “We have a significant backlog to address. The closure is intended to prevent us from holding marketers’ funds for an extended period. It will be reopened once the backlog has been sufficiently reduced. We are working to address it as soon as possible.”
