NIMC Assures Nigerians: No Data Breach, National Identity Database Secure

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has vehemently denied any data breach and assured Nigerians of the safety and security of their data within the National Identity Database. This assurance follows reports in certain sections of the media alleging a breach of citizens’ data by a private organization, XpressVerify. Kayode Adegoke, the Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, emphasized in a statement that the Commission has no affiliation with XpressVerify and clarified that it solely provides NIN verification and other services through licensed partners. Adegoke expressed gratitude to media partners and whistleblowers for highlighting the issue and reiterated that there has been no breach whatsoever.

The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NIMC, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, promptly ordered a thorough investigation into the matter to ascertain if any tokenization verification agents associated with the Commission had violated licensing agreements. Coker-Odusote underscored NIMC’s unwavering commitment to data protection and privacy, assuring that every effort would be made to safeguard enrollees’ data. Emphasizing the robust security measures in place, she reiterated NIMC’s dedication to maintaining public trust and confidence while upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability.
