The Federal Government of Nigeria has responded to allegations concerning the detention conditions of Tigran Gambaryan, an executive at Binance, affirming that claims of his poor treatment are unfounded. In a statement released by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government clarified that Gambaryan is being held in lawful detention with access to high-quality medical care and consular services from his home country.
Minister Idris emphasized the necessity of addressing these allegations, asserting that the claims of Gambaryan’s deteriorating health and substandard prison conditions are baseless and should be disregarded. He assured that the Nigerian government is committed to ensuring Gambaryan’s fundamental rights are upheld, including his right to a fair trial and adequate healthcare, in accordance with the country’s legal framework.
Idris reaffirmed Nigeria’s adherence to due process and legal standards in its efforts to pursue justice in the case involving Binance. “This adherence to legal and diplomatic standards underscores Nigeria’s dedication to upholding justice and maintaining the integrity of its judicial processes,” he stated. He also noted that Gambaryan is being treated fairly, with all his legal and human rights respected throughout the judicial proceedings.
The Minister highlighted that Gambaryan’s detention is a result of a court order, and any changes to his detention status or terms can only be made by the court.
