Nigerian Government Pledges Action Amidst Rising Food Prices and Insecurity

During the annual general meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations Niger State chapter in North Central Nigeria, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling the challenges of soaring food prices, economic hardships, and insecurity affecting Nigerians.

Represented by the Director-General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Malam Jibrin Baba Ndace, the Minister acknowledged the gravity of the situation, particularly the escalating costs of staple foods and essential commodities. He assured attendees that practical measures are underway to address these issues.

Malagi highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s stance against food importation during a meeting with State Governors, advocating instead for consensus on establishing State Police to combat insecurity. He emphasized that such initiatives align with the Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at prioritizing Nigerian constitutional values and meeting citizens’ needs.

The Minister also outlined the administration’s achievements in economic revitalization, security enhancement, Foreign Direct Investment attraction, and bolstering Nigeria’s foreign policy influence.

Recognizing Nigeria’s role in sustaining democracy in West Africa through ECOWAS, Malagi emphasized the importance of preserving national identity and values. He credited President Tinubu’s directive for the creation of the National Value Charter, aimed at reorienting Nigerians towards traditional ideals to promote unity and harmony.

The Minister urged collaboration between the Niger State Government, NIPR, and the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation to promote the National Value Charter within the state.

Former Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, commended NIPR for its contributions to national development and stressed the importance of upholding core institutional values.

Professor Emmanuel Dan Daura, representing the National President of NIPR, praised practitioners for promoting government development initiatives and pledged continued support for enhancing the country’s positive image.

The Chairman of the NIPR Niger State chapter, Alhaji Musa Ladan, highlighted the conference’s theme and topics, aimed at bridging the gap between public relations practice and state development initiatives.

The annual general meeting of the NIPR Niger State Chapter 2024 emphasized the need for enhanced synergy between public relations officers and the government to foster trust and sustainable development. The Minister received the Award of Excellence in recognition of his contributions.
