The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the results of the June/July 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination, revealing that 60.55% of candidates achieved five credits or more in English Language and Mathematics.
Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, the Registrar of NECO, shared the results during a press briefing at the NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State. He noted that out of 1,376,423 registered candidates comprising 706,950 males and 669,473 females 1,367,736 actually sat for the exam.
Wushishi provided a detailed breakdown of the results: 828,284 candidates, or 60.55%, secured five credits and above, including English and Mathematics, while a total of 1,147,597 candidates (83.90%) achieved five credits irrespective of those subjects.
On the topic of examination malpractice, Wushishi reported a significant decline in incidents compared to the previous year. He stated that 8,437 candidates were involved in various forms of malpractice in 2024, down from 12,030 in 2023, marking a reduction of 30.1%.
However, he disclosed that 40 schools were implicated in mass cheating across 17 states. These schools will be summoned for discussions with the Council, after which appropriate sanctions will be determined. Notably, one school in Ekiti has been recommended for de-recognition due to mass cheating in two core subjects and one Science subject.
Additionally, 21 supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to inadequate supervision, including issues such as aiding and abetting malpractice, absconding, extortion, drunkenness, and negligence across 12 states.
Wushishi encouraged candidates to visit the NECO website to access their results, officially declaring the results available to the public. Candidates can retrieve their results at www.neco.gov.ng using their examination registration number.
