NDDC Warns Public Against Fake Scholarship Scam

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has issued a public warning about fraudulent activities involving fake postgraduate scholarship offers being circulated by scammers.

In a statement released by the NDDC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mrs. Seledi Thompson-Wakama, the commission disclosed that unsuspecting members of the public had been targeted by fraudsters soliciting money under the guise of securing placements in a non-existent foreign postgraduate scholarship programme.

Thompson-Wakama revealed that the scammers have been sending deceptive emails, purportedly from “nddcregistry@gmail.com” and claiming to represent the NDDC’s “Board Registry.” These emails invite recipients to a fictitious document verification and authentication exercise scheduled to take place from May 19 to May 21 at Bishop Oluwole Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

“The attention of the NDDC has been drawn to fraudulent emails and messages sent to applicants of the commission’s Postgraduate Foreign Scholarship Programme,” she said. “Members of the public are hereby advised that the NDDC has no affiliation with this fraudulent selection process.”

She emphasised that all official communication regarding the commission’s scholarship programme is conducted solely through its official portal: www.scholarship.nddc.gov.ng. Applicants were strongly urged to disregard any unsolicited communications requesting money, personal information, or offering scholarship placements outside the NDDC’s established procedures.

Thompson-Wakama also encouraged recipients of such fraudulent emails to report them to law enforcement authorities for prompt investigation and action. She advised Nigerians, including former beneficiaries and prospective applicants, to always verify information through the commission’s official website: www.nddc.gov.ng.

“We encourage the public to use only the official NDDC communication channels to avoid falling victim to scams,” she concluded.
