National Dialogue Unveils Nigerian Government’s Proactive Approach to Security Challenges

President Bola Tinubu, through Vice President Kashim Shettima, underscored the Nigerian government’s commitment to tackling security challenges during a national dialogue organized by the House of Representatives. With a focus on State Policing, the dialogue titled ‘Pathways to Peace; Reimagining Policing in Nigeria’ emphasized collaborative governance and inclusive discussions.

President Tinubu reiterated the administration’s unwavering dedication to police reform and national security enhancement. He emphasized that the concept of state policing presents a pivotal opportunity in reshaping law enforcement to cater to diverse community needs.

Recognizing the intricate security landscape, the administration continues to refine strategies to effectively address challenges. The President’s representative highlighted the significance of the dialogue’s outcomes in guiding police reform efforts, aiming for a safer Nigeria.

Participants were urged to explore various dimensions of state policing, considering its potential to improve emergency responses, address local challenges, and enhance accountability while safeguarding civil liberties.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan lauded the dialogue’s organizers, stressing the operational aspects of state policing over its establishment. He referenced previous national discussions on the topic, indicating widespread acceptance.

Additionally, retired Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar emphasized transparency in governance and citizen responsibility for fostering peace. He advocated for traditional institutions’ involvement in maintaining order and urged legislation to ensure public property protection.
