FG PLANS EXECUTIVE ORDER TO REGULATE PHARMACEUTICAL PRICES AND BOOST LOCAL MANUFACTURING

The Nigerian government, under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, is set to issue an Executive Order to address the rising cost of pharmaceuticals. Coordinating Minister of Health, Ali Pate, announced the decision after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting. The Executive Order aims to regulate drug prices, making essential medicines more affordable for citizens while fostering the growth of local drug manufacturers. The move comes in response to the exit of major multinational pharmaceutical companies from Nigeria, impacting competition and accessibility. President Tinubu’s commitment to prioritizing healthcare access is reflected in these decisions, which also include funding for key regulatory bodies and streamlined recruitment processes to address healthcare worker shortages. The initiatives align with the Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on the well-being and social welfare of Nigerians.
