EFCC Launches Investigation into Vessel Seized by Nigerian Navy for Suspected Illegal Oil Refining

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the commencement of an investigation into a vessel apprehended by the Nigerian Navy Ship NNS FORMOSSO in Brass, Bayelsa State. The vessel, identified as Bravo Alero, was found carrying 200 liters of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).

In a statement released on its official X account on Friday, the EFCC detailed that its Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate is leading the investigation into the Bravo Alero, which is believed to be linked to oil theft in the Niger Delta region. The vessel was handed over to the EFCC by the Navy for further investigation and potential prosecution.

Captain Ifeanyichukwu Mabeokwu of NNS FORMOSSO expressed gratitude towards the EFCC and voiced confidence in the Commission’s ability to conduct a thorough investigation and prosecute as necessary. He also reiterated the Navy’s commitment to continuing its collaboration with the EFCC in combating illegal oil bunkering in the region.

Chief Superintendent Shittu Babatunde, representing the EFCC, assured the Navy of a prompt and professional examination of the case, emphasizing the Commission’s dedication to addressing and prosecuting illegal oil activities.
