In a notable development, the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) operating in Sector 3, Monguno, Nigeria, welcomed the surrender of two Boko Haram terrorists who relinquished their arms to the troops within their Area of Operations. Sector 3, comprising the 19 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, is headquartered in Monguno, Borno State.
Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Chief Military Public Information Officer of the MNJTF in N’djamena, Chad, confirmed the surrender of the two individuals, identified as 19-year-old Abubakar Mohammed, alias Garba, and 13-year-old Bana Modu, both skilled in improvised explosive device (IED) operations.
The terrorists surrendered on April 21, 2024, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to dismantle Boko Haram’s activities in the region. In their debriefing, Mohammed and Modu disclosed their orders to plant IEDs along specific routes in Borno State. However, influenced by the MNJTF’s recent Operation NASHRUL SALAM and the sector’s engagement strategies, they opted to abandon their mission, escape with the IEDs, and surrender to the MNJTF.
Recovered items from the surrender include two IEDs, two mobile phones, and a sum of fifty-three thousand Naira (N53,000.00) from Mohammed and Modu. This development underscores the MNJTF’s commitment to encouraging other terrorists in the Lake Chad Islands to surrender, laying down their arms for sustainable peace in the region.
The MNJTF reaffirmed its dedication to restoring peace and normalcy to the Lake Chad Basin, emphasizing the importance of such surrenders in achieving long-term stability.
