Inspector-General of Police Engages with Take It Back Movement Ahead of Planned Nationwide Protest

In a bid to ensure the safety and security of all citizens while upholding the constitutional right to peaceful assembly, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, held a virtual meeting with prominent members of the Take It Back Movement, including Femi Falana and Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa.

The meeting, detailed in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, focused on the importance of maintaining public order and safety during the planned protests.

IGP Egbetokun emphasized the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to facilitating the group’s right to express their concerns through peaceful protests within the bounds of the law. He acknowledged the necessity of safeguarding public order and advised the Take It Back Movement to collaborate with respective State Police Commissioners to coordinate and plan their protests effectively.

The IGP highlighted the importance of planning and organizing protests to ensure the safety of participants and the general public. He warned against unplanned and unnecessary processions due to the potential risks they pose. Coordination with the Police and other security agencies, he stressed, is crucial to mitigate risks and protect the rights and well-being of all involved.

Reiterating the Force’s dedication to protecting citizens’ rights and ensuring that public gatherings are conducted safely, IGP Egbetokun called on all stakeholders to work together to foster a peaceful and secure environment during the planned protests.
