In response to recent attacks and kidnappings of over one hundred and twenty school pupils nationwide, the Defence Headquarters has pledged relentless pursuit until the safe return of the hostages. Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, affirmed this commitment during a press briefing in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, highlighting ongoing military operations across various regions.
General Buba disclosed that the abductions occurred in Borno and Sokoto states during separate incidents. One such incident involved suspected terrorists seizing internally displaced persons (IDPs) fetching firewood beyond the permitted distance from their camp in Gamboru Ngala LGA of Borno State. Despite the delayed notification to troops, swift action was taken, resulting in the neutralization of several terrorists and the destruction of their logistics.
Additionally, troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI in the North West region conducted successful operations, rescuing kidnapped hostages and responding to terrorist activities in multiple LGAs across Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina states. Notably, the late reporting of a kidnapping incident in Sokoto State hindered response efforts, underscoring the importance of timely information.
The Defence Media Operations Director emphasized the role of citizens in combatting terrorism, urging vigilance against terrorist propaganda on social media platforms. He stressed the need to prevent such groups from exploiting media attention to manipulate public opinion.
The briefing concluded with a moment of silence in honor of fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives in defense of the nation.
