Delta State Government Halts Salaries for Exited DELSUTH Health Workers

The Delta State Government has ceased salary payments for 120 health workers from the Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH), Oghara, who have left their positions and moved abroad.

State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, announced this decision during a meeting with leaders from the Ijomi and Edjemouyan communities in Ethiope West Local Government Area. Dr. Onojaeme explained that an audit revealed these workers were still receiving salaries despite their departure from the hospital.

In his address, Dr. Onojaeme outlined several measures taken to enhance the hospital’s operations. He highlighted that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has approved the purchase of a CT scan machine for DELSUTH and the settlement of an outstanding power bill amounting to N100 million owed to the Benin Electricity Distribution Company. Additionally, the state plans to increase the hospital’s monthly subvention.

Dr. Onojaeme praised the local communities for their support and conducive environment, stressing the Governor’s commitment to fulfilling campaign promises and ensuring the benefits of democracy reach the people. He urged continued cooperation from the communities to support the hospital’s progress.

Councilor Eki Benson, representing Ward 12, Oghara, assured the state government of the communities’ ongoing commitment to maintaining a positive relationship with the hospital.
