Lagos State Government Applauds Nigerian Adventurer’s Solo Drive from London to Lagos

The Lagos State government has extended its commendations to Ms. Pelumi Nubi for her remarkable achievement of embarking on a solo drive from London to Lagos. Her adventurous journey, spanning 17 countries and culminating in her triumphant arrival at the Seme border, not only showcases her resilience but also promotes tourism and exploration initiatives aligned with the state’s policies.

Ms. Nubi, aged twenty-eight, received a warm welcome from Lagos State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Toke Benson, Special Adviser on Tourism, Idris Aregbe, as well as her parents, students from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), and numerous well-wishers upon her arrival in Lagos. Her journey, which commenced on January 31st, 2024, saw her overcoming challenges and obstacles, including involvement in an accident, demonstrating her determination and courage throughout the expedition.

Speaking to the press, Mr. Idris Aregbe, Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, commended Ms. Nubi for her resilience and underscored the state government’s commitment to supporting youth-driven initiatives aimed at enhancing the tourism sector. He emphasized the significance of Ms. Nubi’s journey in elevating Lagos’s prominence in the realms of entertainment and hospitality, affirming the administration’s dedication to nurturing talent and innovation.

Ms. Nubi, in recounting her experiences during the solo trip, expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their unwavering support and reflected on the challenges she encountered, including moments of loneliness and longing for her family. Despite the hurdles, she expressed her excitement and pride in completing the journey, emphasizing the importance of showcasing the richness of the African continent to the world.

Her mother, Mrs. Olubukola Nubi, visibly elated by her daughter’s achievement, offered words of encouragement to youths, urging them to remain focused and resilient in pursuit of their goals.

As part of her homecoming, Ms. Nubi visited the University of Lagos, where her father lectures, and was treated to a cultural performance by Lagos cultural troupes at the Seme border.

Ms. Nubi’s extraordinary journey serves as a testament to the indomitable spirit of Nigerian youth and underscores the potential of tourism as a vehicle for cultural exchange and economic development.
