The Nigerian gospel music community is in mourning following the passing of renowned singer Ajayi Aduke Morounkola, widely known by her stage name Aduke Gold. The news of her death was confirmed by fellow gospel artist Esther Igbekele, who made the announcement on Tuesday morning through her Facebook page, expressing her grief with the words, “A general has fallen. ADUKE GOLD #rip.”
The cause of Aduke Gold’s death has not yet been disclosed.
Aduke Gold, who grew up in the Ogba and Badagry areas of Lagos, was the 11th child of her late parents. She began her professional music career in 2004 and gained significant recognition with her live performance at the first remembrance ceremony of the late gospel artist Baba Are.
In 2021, she further cemented her place in the gospel music scene with the release of her popular track “Nitori Ogo,” which garnered widespread acclaim.
Beyond her musical achievements, Aduke Gold was also academically accomplished. She earned a degree in history and international relations from Lagos State University and pursued higher studies in child psychology in the United Kingdom. Her death marks a significant loss to both the gospel music industry and the broader Nigerian artistic community.
