Edo State to Honor Rema with Naming of Arena After Pop Star

The Edo State government has announced plans to honor Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, by naming the upcoming Edo Arena after him. This decision was unveiled during the groundbreaking ceremony for the arena on Wednesday.

In a widely shared video, the singer of the hit song “Calm Down” was seen participating in the foundation laying for what will be named the Rema Dome. Rema was joined at the event by Governor Godwin Obaseki and other state officials.

The ceremony was part of the celebrations for Rema’s highly anticipated homecoming concert in Benin. His arrival in his hometown on Tuesday was marked by a grand reception.

Rema first gained widespread attention in 2018 with a viral Instagram freestyle covering D’Prince’s “Gucci Gang.” He officially debuted in the music scene in 2019 with his track “Dumebi.”

The much-awaited homecoming concert is scheduled to take place at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on August 30. This event follows a previous attempt by Governor Obaseki to host Rema in December 2023, which was postponed due to health issues.
