Mr. Li Xuda, the Director of the China Cultural Center in Nigeria, has emphasized the importance of incorporating Chinese language education into all levels of learning to unlock a plethora of career opportunities. Speaking at the finals of the 23rd Chinese Bridge-Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students, held virtually in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, Mr. Xuda highlighted the significance of fluency in Chinese in enhancing employment prospects in the international job market.
The Chinese Bridge-Chinese Proficiency competition, which underscores the importance of language and cultural exchange between China and Nigeria, aims to stimulate participants’ interest in learning Chinese and deepen their cultural understanding. Mr. Xuda stressed that the competition serves as a conduit for strengthening mutual understanding, bilateral relationships, economic growth, and cultural exchange between the two nations.
“With China’s expanding influence in international trade, technology, and diplomacy, the ability to communicate effectively in Chinese is viewed as a valuable asset for individuals seeking to advance their careers in an interconnected world,” Mr. Xuda remarked. He emphasized the growing demand for employees proficient in Chinese, particularly as businesses seek to expand operations in China and engage with Chinese partners and markets.
Echoing Mr. Xuda’s sentiments, Yu Zhangbao, the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Nigeria, emphasized the importance of hard work, determination, and a conducive learning environment in enhancing students’ performance and contributing to national and economic growth. Similarly, Zhao Hongling, Dean of the University of Lagos Confucius Institute, underscored the role of the “Chinese Bridge” competition in connecting China with the world and providing a platform for college students to showcase their Chinese language skills and understand Chinese culture.
The 23rd season of the Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students witnessed the participation of 12 college students from across Nigeria. After impressive performances, Zhengui emerged as the winner, with Zhou Wenjing and Qi Siheng securing second place, and Shen Moli, Chen Peixi, and Tian Jie claiming third place. The winner of the contest will have the opportunity to travel to China and compete in the global “Chinese Bridge” competition, further enriching their cultural and linguistic experiences.
