Nigerian music sensation Asake has shattered records with his latest album, Lungu Boy, which has achieved the highest opening week streams on Spotify Nigeria. Released on August 9, 2024, the album has set a new benchmark, amassing 18.9 million streams in its first week, surpassing the previous record of 14.4 million streams held by Davido’s Timeless.
Lungu Boy, Asake’s third album, features collaborations with top global artists, including Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Wizkid, British rappers Central Cee and Stormzy, American superstar Travis Scott, and Brazilian singer Ludmila. The album’s success not only cements Asake’s position as a leading figure in the Nigerian music industry but also marks a significant achievement on the global stage.
In addition to breaking the opening week record, Lungu Boy also set a new record for the biggest opening day global streams for a Nigerian album on Spotify, garnering 9.2 million streams on its first day. The album’s second track, “MMS,” recorded 870,577 streams on its release day, surpassing the previous record of 626,000 streams set by Wizkid’s “IDK” featuring Zlatan.
Asake is the only artist to have two albums in Spotify Nigeria’s top 10 for opening week streams, with his sophomore album Work of Art accumulating 8.3 million streams in its first week. This achievement further solidifies Asake’s dominance in the music industry, as Lungu Boy continues to break records and redefine success in Nigerian music.
