As Edo State prepares for the upcoming handover on November 12, 2024, Governor Godwin Obaseki has urged the governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to establish a transition panel to collaborate with his own transition committee. Obaseki proposed that both panels convene for their first meeting today, October 14, 2024.
Okpebholo, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), was declared the winner of the governorship election held on September 21. However, the election results are currently being contested by Asue Ighodalo, the candidate from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a statement, Obaseki emphasized the importance of a smooth transition, inviting Okpebholo and the APC to promptly form their transition team. He noted that this collaboration would facilitate meaningful discussions and the exchange of crucial information necessary for an effective transfer of power.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG) assured that the Obaseki administration is committed to providing Okpebholo with the necessary support and resources to ensure a seamless transition. He expressed optimism about the inaugural meeting of both transition committees, highlighting the potential for setting a solid foundation for Okpebholo’s administration.
“We look forward to your prompt response and to working closely with you and your team in the coming weeks. Together, we can set the foundation for a successful administration that meets the expectations of our constituents,” the SSG stated.
