Abuja, Nigeria — The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has refuted claims that it has begun bulk sales of petrol from the recently revamped Port Harcourt refinery. This clarification follows an announcement by the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), which suggested that its members had started purchasing fuel from the facility.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, PETROAN’s National President, Billy Gillis-Harry, noted that members had procured petrol based on the old pricing template but were awaiting updates on new prices.
However, NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communication Officer, Femi Soneye, dismissed the claims, stating that the refinery’s bulk sales have not commenced. “We have not yet opened the purchase portal as we are still finalizing the necessary processes,” Soneye explained.
He further clarified that current product sales are sourced from the Dangote Refinery, with prices reflecting NMDPRA fees. “The product from the Port Harcourt refinery is currently designated for our retail stores. Our prices are regularly reviewed and adjusted as required,” Soneye added.
The Port Harcourt refinery, which recently underwent revitalization, remains a focal point in Nigeria’s efforts to boost local fuel production. However, NNPCL’s statement underscores that bulk distribution from the facility is still pending final procedural steps.
