The family of Tigran Gambaryan, a Binance executive detained since March 2024, has issued a poignant plea for justice following the denial of his latest bail application on Friday. Despite presenting medical evidence highlighting his deteriorating health, the court has consistently rejected requests for bail.
Tigran’s wife, Yuki Gambaryan, has expressed profound concern about her husband’s condition, revealing that he suffers from a severe herniated disc, which has severely limited his mobility. “Tigran’s health is worsening in Kuje Prison, where medical facilities are inadequate for the specialized treatment he urgently needs,” she stated.
Multiple doctors, including those within the prison’s medical team, have confirmed that Tigran requires urgent care that the prison cannot provide. Yuki lamented the injustice of withholding medical attention from her husband, saying, “It is unjust to deny someone in Tigran’s condition the opportunity to seek medical help. I just pray that the damage he is suffering isn’t irreversible by the time he is released.”
The family’s legal representatives have pointed out that the bail denial contradicts established legal precedents in Nigeria, where bail is often granted on humanitarian and medical grounds. “This decision raises serious concerns about the fairness of the judicial process and the protection of basic human rights,” Yuki added.
Despite the bail rejection, the trial has continued, with the cross-examination of a Central Bank witness as part of the ongoing Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) proceedings. Tigran’s family and legal team are urging Nigerian authorities to reconsider the bail decision before his health deteriorates further.
