Bobrisky Responds to Defamation Claims, Blames Media Critic

Popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, has asked human rights activist and lawyer Femi Falana, along with his son Folarin, better known as Falz, to hold media critic Martin Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, accountable for defamatory content circulating on social media.

Bobrisky clarified that he never provided Falana or his son with any money to secure a presidential pardon during his recent legal troubles. This response comes after Falana and Falz demanded a public apology and retraction regarding Bobrisky’s alleged defamatory statements, which have surfaced in audio recordings online.

According to reports from The PUNCH, one of the audios shared by VeryDarkMan features Bobrisky claiming he had contacted Falz for help in persuading his father to secure a presidential pardon, which he alleged would cost N10 million. He also claimed to have asked Falz for N3 million for special treatment at Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

In another audio, Bobrisky asserted that he had paid N5 million upfront to a Senior Advocate of Nigeria in an effort to obtain a pardon from the Federal Government related to charges filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

On October 14, 2024, Falana’s legal representatives, Olorunfemi Akinyemi and Taiwo E. Olawanle, issued a letter accusing Bobrisky of making false and defamatory claims about the Falana family’s involvement in alleged bribery. The legal team called the allegations baseless and damaging to Falana’s reputation, demanding a full retraction and public apology on all platforms where the statements were disseminated.

In response, Bobrisky reiterated that he did not give any money to Falana or his son. He emphasized that the responsibility for the defamatory content lies with the individual who published it.

“I, Okuneye Idris aka Bobrisky, did not give Falz or his dad any money for a pardon. No funds were exchanged. I have said this before and will say it again: the person who published the audio online should take full responsibility for their actions,” he stated in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

He further clarified, “In response to the letters from the Falanas’ law firm, I want to make it clear that I did not publish any defamatory statements about the learned SAN and his son, Falz. According to my solicitor’s letter dated September 27, 2024, I have denied any knowledge of what VeryDarkMan published. I stand by my denial and advise that anyone claiming defamation should hold the publisher accountable. My right to privacy in communications must be respected and protected.”

Bobrisky’s legal team is expected to provide further information regarding the ongoing situation as it develops.
