In a tragic incident in Delta State, a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and several others were killed in an early morning ambush during a kidnap rescue operation. Another DPO is currently in critical condition in an undisclosed hospital following the attack.
The new DPO of Agbarho, who had only resumed his duties two days prior, was part of a team, including CSP Paul, the DPO of Orerokpe, when they were ambushed around 1:00 am near Agbarho Rail Station. An exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the deaths of the Agbarho DPO and several officers, while the Orerokpe DPO was rushed to the hospital, where he is fighting for his life.
In a statement reflecting on the incident, a police official expressed deep sorrow, noting that he had spoken with the DPO about maintaining officer conduct just the day before. “This loss is heartbreaking, as I can personally attest to the integrity of these officers,” he stated, extending condolences to the Nigeria Police Force, the Delta State Command, and the families of those who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. He emphasized that the perpetrators of such crimes should face justice.
Efforts to obtain comments from SP Bright Edafe, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
