Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has voiced his disappointment over the lack of response from Nigerians to the country’s ongoing economic challenges, particularly among the youth.
In an interview with ABN TV, Amaechi expressed concern about the high cost of living, escalating fuel prices, and other economic pressures. He noted his surprise at the calmness with which citizens have reacted.
“I expected more agitation, especially from the youth. I anticipated seeing protests in the streets, but it seems people are not expressing the anger I expected,” remarked the former governor of Rivers State.
Having served nearly eight years as Minister of Transportation under the Muhammadu Buhari administration, Amaechi has been vocal about his worries regarding the economy’s current state. He pointed out that there has been minimal public pushback despite the rising cost of living.
“You cannot have a situation where a group of people mismanages resources and expect citizens to remain silent. I am truly baffled by the lack of action,” he said.
Using Edo State as an example, Amaechi questioned whether politicians should even be campaigning in light of the economic crisis.
“The price of diesel is at an all-time high, and many of us are struggling to afford it. Yet, the general public seems unmoved,” he stated.
