Sudanese Army Chief Welcomes Turkey’s Initiative to End 20-Month Conflict

The leader of Sudan’s army, Abdel Fattah Al Burhan, has expressed support for Turkey’s efforts to mediate the ongoing 20-month conflict between his forces and their paramilitary rivals. During a meeting in Port Sudan with Turkey’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Al Burhan conveyed his gratitude and urged Turkish leaders to continue their push for peace under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s initiative.

Last week, the United Arab Emirates lauded Turkey’s “diplomatic efforts” to address the crisis in Sudan, further highlighting Ankara’s growing role in seeking a resolution.

The war, which has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced over 12 million people, has devastated Sudan, pushing the country to the brink of famine. Analysts warn that the involvement of external powers risks prolonging the conflict and deepening the humanitarian crisis.

Turkey’s initiative is one of several international efforts aimed at ending the conflict and restoring stability to the war-torn nation. However, with millions suffering and peace prospects uncertain, Sudan remains in dire need of lasting solutions.
