The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) disclosed the surrender of two commanders belonging to the Boko Haram faction known as BAKOURA BUDUMA. According to Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Chief of Military Public Information Officer MNJTF in N’Djamena, Chad, the surrendered commanders, Ibrahim Muhammed and Auwal Muhammed, also known as WANKA, turned themselves in to Sector 3 MNJTF troops in Nigeria.
This development marks a significant advancement in the ongoing efforts to restore peace in the Lake Chad region. The surrender is credited to the intensified military operations, both kinetic and non-kinetic, targeting terrorist groups within Sector 3 MNJTF.
The MNJTF stated that the decision to surrender was made by the two active commanders operating in the Lake Chad Islands due to mounting pressure from military actions. The surrendered fighters are currently in custody for further investigation.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Ibrahim and Auwal Muhammed had been affiliated with the BAKOURA BUDUMA faction for 15 years, operating in KWALLARAM, located in the Lake Chad Islands. Various items, including AK-47 rifles, magazines, ammunition, mobile phones, and other equipment, were recovered from the surrendered commanders, underscoring the significance of their surrender to the MNJTF forces.
