Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, a Ghanaian woman, is embarking on a journey to break the Guinness World Record for the longest individual singing marathon. Taking inspiration from Sunil Waghmare, an Indian who sang for 105 hours in March 2012, Afua has been continuously singing Ghanaian songs at the Akwaaba village.
Commencing her musical feat at midnight on December 24th, Afua aims to conclude her non-stop singing marathon on December 27th, totaling an impressive 4 days and 9 hours of continuous singing. The mother of two has garnered support from various quarters, with A-list musicians, politicians, and even Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia showing their solidarity at the Akwaaba village.
Afua’s ambitious attempt aligns with the recent call by some Ghanaian musicians to promote local songs during the Yuletide season. The event has become a social media sensation in Ghana, with users and attendees alike praising Afua for her dedication, making the 2023 Christmas in Ghana a truly memorable experience.
