Moroccans in Casablanca rallied in solidarity with Palestinians, demanding a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and the termination of diplomatic ties with Israel. The protesters urged an end to the relations established between Morocco and Israel in 2020, part of a broader normalization process involving several Arab nations. Socialist MP Nabila Mounib emphasized the need for a definitive ceasefire, stating, “What we need is not a truce, but a definitive ceasefire so that we can sit down together and give peace a chance.” Mounib outlined the aspirations of the protesters, including the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state with Al-Quds as its capital, the potential return of exiles from the entire Palestinian diaspora, and the release of prisoners in Israeli jails.
The protests coincided with the third day of a four-day ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, following a seven-week conflict that resulted in the reported deaths of almost 15,000 Palestinians and 1,200 Israelis, according to officials from both sides.
