BREAKING: Vice President of Malawi, Nine Others Missing in Aircraft Incident

The Malawian government has confirmed that an aircraft carrying Vice President Saulos Chilima and nine other individuals has gone missing.

In an official statement released on Monday by Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Colleen Zamba, the government disclosed that all attempts to establish communication with the aircraft have been unsuccessful since it disappeared from radar.

The statement reads: “The Office of the President and Cabinet wishes to inform the general public that a Malawi Defense Force aircraft, which departed from Lilongwe at 09:17 hours today, Monday, June 10, 2024, carrying Vice President, the Right Honourable Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, and nine others, failed to make its scheduled landing at Mzuzu International Airport at 10:02 hours.”

General Valentino Phiri, Commander of the Malawi Defense Force, has briefed President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera about the incident. In response, President Chakwera has cancelled his planned trip to the Bahamas and has ordered an immediate search and rescue mission involving all regional and national agencies to locate the missing aircraft.

The government has assured the public that updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
