Ilorin Man Seeks Financial Aid After Wife Gives Birth to 11 Babies in Benin Republic

A 56-year-old man from Ilorin, Alfa Yahaya Imam Nafiu, is seeking financial assistance after his wife, Alake Latoyosi, 54, gave birth to 11 babies in Cotonou, Benin Republic. Nafiu, who is the Missioner of the Ilorin Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) in Port Novo Ajasse, reported that his family is struggling with the financial burden of caring for the nine surviving babies and their mother.

The couple welcomed eight boys and three girls, although two of the girls sadly passed away during delivery. The babies were born on two separate occasions; the first set on July 7, 2024, and the second set on August 14, 2024. The mother, Latoyosi, initially gave birth to six babies, followed by five more after noticing unusual movements in her stomach and undergoing a medical scan.

Nafiu described the births as a miracle, noting that his wife’s pregnancy lasted over three years, a situation he attributed to spiritual influences. He also expressed concerns about the significant expenses they face, including medical bills, marriage rites, and police reports needed before bringing the children home to Ilorin.

The National President of IEDPU, Alhaji Abdulmumini Abdulmalik, confirmed Nafiu’s Ilorin heritage and drew parallels to a similar event nearly a century ago, when a woman in Ilorin gave birth to decuplets, leading to the area’s nickname, Ita Goma (“the arena of decuplets”).

While congratulating the family, Abdulmalik acknowledged the financial strain this unexpected blessing has placed on them. He urged the government and philanthropic individuals, particularly from the Ilorin Emirate, to provide financial and material support to help Nafiu meet his parental responsibilities.
