Gbenga Ogunbote has been announced as the new head coach of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) club, Shooting Stars.
He replaces Kadiri Ikhana, who resigned from the post last month.
Ogubote was picked from four high-profile managers, including Okey Emordi and Zachary Baraje. Shooting Stars currently occupy the 18th place in the NPFL table.
The former Sunshine Stars’ gaffer has made a quick return to the club he left at the beginning of the current campaign after quitting Giwa FC on Wednesday.
Barely a day after leaving Giwa FC, coach Gbenga Ogunbote has made a sensational return to Shooting Stars.
On Wednesday, Ogunbote told Goal that he was studying offers from three different clubs but 3SC media officer Jubril Arowolo said on Thursday morning that the former Sunshine Stars boss has signed a deal with the struggling Oluyole Warriors till the end of the season.
Ogunbote will be assisted by Lawal Abimbola and Edith Egoye and their immediate target would be to revive the fortunes of the Ibadan side who are placed 18th with 17 points from 18 matches.
Arowolo said that Ogunbote was introduced to the players and other officials of 3SC before the start of Thursday’s practice session and that the coach signaled his intention to return after noticing that some of the issues that precipitated his departure at the start of the season had been sorted out.
“We have named Gbenga Ogunbote as our head coach and as I am talking to you now he is at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan where he had just been introduced to the players. The issues that made him leave at the beginning of the season have now been handled to a certain extent. He is to be assisted by Lawal Abimbola and Edith Agoye and they have been charged to ensure that 3SC return to winning ways starting from the weekend home game with Akwa United,”
3SC will face Akwa United this weekend in a Week 19 cracker at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan in what will be Ogunbote’s first baptism of fire.
