The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu has commended the decision of the Court of Appeal, which reinstated Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, as the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2016 Ondo State governorship election.
Ekweremadu, who described the decision as courageous, and expeditious, and in a speedy and just manner that raises hope for the nation’s democracy.
He while commending the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal for their speed in handling the matter, noted that democracy could only thrive where there is respect for the rule of law.
Meanwhile, ahead of the Saturday’s governorship election, fear has gripped ad-hoc staff of the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, and members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, serving in the state over circulating death threats.
The officials have been reportedly warned to stay away from the governorship election scheduled for Saturday.
Recall that the Director-General of NYSC, Brig Gen. Sule Zakari Kazaure had admonished members billed to serve as ad-hoc staff in the election to avoid being partisan in the course of discharging their duty and avoid all forms of material gifts from politicians.
