No place for cultism – Edo State CP

Consequent upon recent cult related killings in Edo state, the commissioner of Police Haliru Gwandu says there will be no place for any act of cultism in the state.

Haliru Gwandu made the declaration while confirming the cult related killings in the state capital on Wednesday that left three people dead in different parts of the state capital.

Our correspondent Eben Enasco reports that one of the victims identified simply as Godspower who was scheduled to travel out of the country on Saturday was murdered in front of his residence at Second East Circular road, Benin.

According to the report, the bereaved mother of Godspower sat on the walkway and wept profusely while laying curses on those that murdered her son.

In a related development, a police corporal Stanley Akhigbe who allegedly shot dead one Imalele Osemwingie at a wedding ceremony in Benin the Edo state capital under the pretense of alcohol has been apprehended and will soon be charged to court.

Edo state commissioner of police Haliru Gwandu who disclosed this says he has instituted an investigation panel to look into the circumstances that led to the alleged shooting of Osemwingie.

Correspondent Enasco reports that the corporal was alleged to have attended the wedding with a police rifle and later had a disagreement with some of the guests which snowballed into an argument and out of anger he pulled the trigger thrice firing into the ground.

He was also alleged to have later fired another shot which hit Osemwingie who died on the spot.

Sources say in an attempt to escape from the scene, the suspect shot sporadically into the air but was over-powered by the crowd after he had exhausted his ammunition and handed over to the men of the Ikpoba Hill police division.
