IYC announces date for council elections

A factional electoral committee of the Ijaw Youth Council has announced 11 March 2017 for fresh elections into the national executive council of the IYC.

This was contained in the guidelines for the election released by Oscar Isu, the parallel electoral committee chairman saying the election will take place at Burutu town, headquarters of Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.

According to the statement, each Ijaw clan is expected to submit a total of three delegates from the old clan structure except eastern zone clans which shall bring four delegates per clan, one of which must be a female adding that Lagos and Abuja chapters of the IYC are required to produce 15 delegates each.

The national president, national Vice President and national secretary of National Union of Izon-Ebe students from their respective zones shall be automatic delegates to the election adding that all delegates’ lists must reach the electoral committee before March 9.

Isu also announced a shift in the deadline for sale and submission of completed nomination forms from 25 to 28 February.

Udengs Eradiri, out-going president of the IYC inaugurated the Isu-led electoral body during the council’s national convention held penultimate Saturday at Okrika, Rivers State.
