Gov’t Please Save Us; Ophiren Women Cry Out

16 December 2016 Uncategorized

Women of Ophiren community in Ughelli North local government area of Delta state have called on the federal and state governments to come to their aid as authorities of the Community Development Committee are making life unbearable for people of the community.

The Ophiren women who made their grievances known to Quest 93.1 FM and Quest Television in an exclusive interview explained that two of their sons have been killed by irate youths allegedly on the orders of the CDC chairman Shadrack Etayenyo adding that they left on foot since Sunday to Ogor where the paramount ruler has been taking care of them since then.

According to them, trouble started when members of the community intimated Shadrack Etayenyo who is the current chairman of the CDC to vacate office since his tenure expired sometime in November stressing that rather than heed the advice, he insists for a second term which is against the constitution of the community’s CDC constitution.

They explained further that the resultant effect of the brouhaha was the torching of the homes of some influential people of the community who are perceived to be against the second tenure bid of the incumbent CDC chairman and the forceful miscarriage of an almost six months pregnant woman.

Corroborating the story, the oldest man in the community alongside other custodian of the community’s tradition told Quest FM/TV that people of the community now live in fear as they don’t know what the next move will be.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Andrew Aniamaka promised to get back to Quest 93.1 FM adding that the police is on the matter.
