FUPRE in dire need of funds; as school holds its first convocation ceremony

Federal University of Petroleum Resources, FUPRE, Effurun, Delta State on Tuesday held its first Convocation ceremony for award of first degrees, presentation of prizes and conferment of honorary degrees at the campus main arena.

The occasion was officially flagged off by Emir of Zamfara and Chancellor of the University, Attahiru Mohammad Ahmad.

The Pro-Chancellor, Senator Nimi Bariga-Amange, during the ceremony in his opening speech said the university was on its path to greater heights and that the institution had been put together through various policies on ground.

He appealed for assistance from organisations to the university to ensure its growth as the institution is in dire need of funds to manage and take care of all its challenges.

FUPRE’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Akii Ibhadode, says the institution aims to be among the top universities in the world irrespective of the political situation in Nigeria.

Akii Ibhadode used the opportunity to highlight some of the achievements of the students stressing that the prospects of the university were high and promising if duly supported.

Honorary Doctorate degrees were conferred on the Chancellor, Atiku Abubakar, former vice President in the Obasanjo regime, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, Catholic Bishop of Abuja, Emmanuel Sideso Abe 1 of Uvwie Kingdom, Olorogun Moses Taiga and Daniel Nwanneka.
