6 December 2018 National

The 2018 Global Terrorism Index (GTI) has ranked Nigeria as the third country, most impacted by strife globally, coming behind war rattled Iraq and Afghanistan.

Nigeria stands on the third spot ahead of Syria and Pakistan among the five countries considered the most impacted by terrorism.

According to the report, total deaths from terrorism in Nigeria fell to 1,532 in 2017, a drop of 16% from the previous year.

The report released and published on Wednesday by the institute of economics and peace says the global community is experiencing a continuing trend of a decline in terrorism, with the total number of deaths falling by 27% to 18,814 deaths in 2017.
