Former AIG, Raimi Odofin backs State Police

15 February 2018 National

A former Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Raimi Odofin, says the country is mature enough for the creation of State Police to strengthen machinery for tackling security challenges.

Odofin, who stated this in a chat with newsmen in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, said the number of policemen in the country was inadequate for the recurring security challenges across the nation.

According to him, it is time for Nigerians to accept the creation of State Police in spite of the fear that state governors would abuse it, adding that National Police was very effective in the past, but due to poor management of resources, it is now facing a lot of challenges.
