Enugu Assembly Orders Demolition of Illegal Structures in Parks

The Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, has been directed by the Enugu State House of Assembly to commence demolition of illegal structures in some parks within Enugu metropolis for non-compliance to agreements.

The House said the parks had a due process test failure, non- compliance to agreements and abandonment/encroachment issues which have hurt Internally Generated Revenue, of the State.

Some of the affected parks include John Nwodo Close Park, Murtala Muhammed Park, Chief Edward Nnaji Park, Ejindu Park and Onwudiwe Park.


The House also said the General Manager of Tourism Board should ensure that the subsequent awards of all contracts meet due process, strict contractual compliance and with the purpose as provided in their enabling laws.

Ezenta Ezeani representing Igbo-Etiti East constituency and twenty-two others urged, the governor of Enugu State  – Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi  to immediately revoke all the contractual agreements of Tourism Board on Parks, open spaces, recreation centers and other related facilities and ensure their total and immediate repossession.
